WRG 2012 Mock Draft - #8 Toronto Raptors

When you have been bad for a long time, you eventually wind up with a collection of lottery picks.  If you did it right, your team looks like the OKC Thunder.  If you didn't, it looks like us.

So here we are, ready to add another of these pieces.  We've already got a logjam in our frontcourt.  Those guys need court time.  We feel like we are done mixing the batter, and now we just need our bigs to bake together into a nice panful of ooey-gooey goodness.

What we need most is a PG to replace the one we will not re-sign after this season, but this draft doesn't offer that - at least not this high.

So we were looking at some really nice guards we thought would be available at this pick.  We think there are a few who would give us what we need - more versatility, more explosiveness, better shooting and tougher defense.  We know a lot about these guys, and we would have been very comfortable picking one of them but we got Brad Beal instead so YEEHA!

The Raptors select Bradley Beal, SG, Florida

"Wait, TORONTO? Can I still play for the USA?"

WRG 2011 Mock Draft - #5 Toronto Raptors

Remember the movie "Jurassic Park"?

It was so awesome, right?!

There were dinosaurs running around eating Newman and dogging Jeff Goldblum.  The hot, hot Laura Dern provided the eye candy. That glass of water started trembling ominously.  It was OFF THE CHAIN!

Then remember how a few years later Canadians thought naming a team after this movie was super cool and they wore purple and didn't play any defense for twenty years?

Yeah.  Me, too.

The Raptors take Kawhi Leonard.  Stop somebody.  Please.

The Kawhiraptor has the largest talons in the dino kingdom.

WRG 2010 Mock Draft - #13 Toronto Raptors

We have holes aplenty. Turkoglu wants to be traded & Bosh is more into twitter than basketball. Our center is a perimeter PF. We don't have much quality depth.

We could go a number of ways here, but we're gonna go with the best fit. We want a player who is a professional. We don't want him asking his twitter followers where he should play or sign. We don't want him to sign with us and then renege on his contract a year later and ask for a trade. We're gonna purge our franchise of undesirables and add players who fits into our culture.

After we let Bosh walk and trade Turkoglu, we have two major holes: SF and big man.

There are a number of big men, but a lot of the good big men left right now are huge question marks and need time to develop. We don't want that. We want someone we know is going to be solid, so we're looking at wings. The player we want even sounds like a French-Canadian. Xavier Henry.

HIGH FIVE!
