WRG 2012 Mock Draft - #10 New Orleans Hornets

Having two lottery picks is more than just fun.  Sometimes it allows you to take a player you might not have been able to get the most out of otherwise.

For example, winning the draft lottery has yielded us a supernatural freak who will be protecting the rim and messing up opposing offenses for as long as we can hang on to him.  We have a defensive cornerstone who will win us games right away.

Still, he is a project on the offensive end.  He hasn't grown into his frame and isn't strong enough yet.  He has offensive skills, but we think it will take a while for him to excel on that end.

So we have a chance here to take a guy who will compliment him, benefit from his incredible help defense and give us the offensive production we lack.  This guy can score in many ways and is a fully-grown bruiser, but he is short and not a guy you want guarding PFs.  He's better off pushing around skinny centers on defense.  However, on offense he is strong enough to take on anyone, freeing up our developing star to take on weaker defenders.

It's great synergy.  Too bad we won't have any lottery picks from now on.

The Hornets select Jared Sullinger, C, Ohio State

WRG 2012 Mock Draft - #1 New Orleans Hornets

Was it fixed? Some say it was. Some say it wasn't. We don't really care. We won and that's all that matters.

Drew Brees and the Saints did their part to revive the city of New Orleans. Now we do our part to pick up the city and it starts with a franchise player

One of the greatest things about having the first pick in this draft is that there IS a clear cut number 1 player. We don't need to think about it, and we won't entertain trade offers. We won the lottery, and now we sit back and relax until we are officially on the clock and can stroll up to the podium and announce our new cornerstone big man.

The Hornets select Anthony Davis, PF, Kentucky.

With a wingspan almost as big as his unibrow and a demeanor almost as nasty as his teeth, he's a once in a generation talent. Welcome aboard big man.

WRG 2010 Mock Draft - #11 New Orleans Hornets

This is simple.

We need depth, everywhere except PG.

This draft doesn't have many good point guards anyway. We can just take the player who we think is the best, regardless of position at this spot. We hoped someone would fall to us, and Greg Monroe did. Not only do we look at Monroe as the best player available, but he's from New Orleans. It's a match made in the bayou.

We're happy to have a little depth in the frontcourt for once. And we're even happier that we won't have to play Sean Marks.

Welcome home, Big Greg.
