WRG 2012 Mock Draft - #28 Oklahoma City Thunder

One thing we learned in our playoff run is you can never have enough shooting.  You can carefully build your team and come up with a finished product that you are satisfied with, but then in the Finals you have James Harden flailing around trying to guard a monsterous LeBron.  That kind of stuff happens in mid-June.  We couldn't avoid it, but we know the answer is more depth and firepower off the bench.

This year we get back Eric Maynor, who we needed and will certainly help, but we also want to upgrade our perimeter shooting further so even if we have to live with matchup problems on defense, we can at least keep up on the scoreboard.  We couldn't do that with our tired stars and it really cost us.

Here we have what we believe is a top-notch specialist who will almost certainly be able to shoot over 40% from long range and open things up for our many offensive weapons.  We also think he's a better athlete than most players in his role and can be coached to fit in with what we do on both ends.  He's got some room to grow while he's knocking down all those threes.

The Thunder selects John Jenkins, SG, Vanderbilt

It's not an NBA draft unless Vanderbilt has three players go in the first round.

WRG 2011 Mock Draft - #28 Chicago Bulls

We haven't done a very good job surrounding Derrick Rose with offensive weapons. We need more players who can create their own shot and take the pressure off him.

Even though DRose is the MVP, it's tough when our go to play is "give the ball to Derrick and let him create". We need to better surround him with players who compliment his game. We need players who can fill it up from deep or create their own shot.

Here's an under the radar prospect who was one of the best scorers in the nation, and did most of his damage on isolation plays. A guy who we can put on the court with DRose, or let him spell him and create for the second unit. Charles Jenkins will increase the career of our franchise player and help him in the long run, as well as help this team immediately.

WRG Mock Draft 2010 - #28 Memphis Grizzlies

 
Let me tell you, when we saw polar bears on that "Lost" island - what a sense of relief came over our whole franchise.  If polar bears can be wandering around on some tropical island, who's to say you won't see a grizzly or two munching on tourists at Graceland or bopping down Beale street enjoying some tunes.

Then they came up with all that time-shifting nonsense, and maybe the place was purgatory and all that.  We don't know and we don't want to know.  It bums us out a little.  We liked it the old, confusing way where our name made some sense.

So, yeah, our frontcourt is fine and we've been hanging on to our underwhelming lottery PG for a while now - so we are going to take Armon Johnson here and hope he's the best of the crop of athletic combo guards still on the board.  We think he's the most well-rounded of them and probably the best mix of scoring ability, shooting, defense and potential at the point.

The "H" stands for, "Hi, Memphis, you don't know me, but my name is Armon Johnson and I was the second best player on Nevada, and even though I bet you are not that excited your team drafted me I am going to work really hard and - hey - I can't be any worse than Allen Iverson, right?"
