WRG 2012 Mock Draft - #27 Miami Heat

Who cares about the draft? We just won the NBA championship.

We have the best player in the NBA, and the best 1-2 combo. We don't need stars, we've reached our quota on that. We want solid role players who can assist our big 3 and help do positive things to win games. We don't need scoring at all. We want versatility or guys who are very good at one skill set. These are the types of players we want to surround LBJ, DWade, and Chris Bosh with.

With the 27th pick, the Miami Heat select Fab Melo, C, Syracuse

FABulous!

When you have such a prominent big 3, getting a rim protector like Melo is a great fit. We don't need him to score. We want him to stand inside and swat shots all day.We know he can do that, since he was the Big East's defensive player of the year. On offense he just has to be able to dunk once in a while, and we're confident he can do that. This will improve our defense and make us even scarier as we go for the repeat.

WRG 2011 Mock Draft - #27 New Jersey Nets

Remember when we announced we were moving to Brooklyn?  Those next six seasons were awesome!

Remember when we traded our washed up, old PG for a younger model?  Everyone said that was a great idea!

Remember when we changed owners, signed a combo forward for $35M, then moved up in the draft to take a combo forward, then somehow still spent the whole season with no wings?

Well, this year we have a chance to rectify one of those things.

We are going to take a small forward here.  He has to be able to play this season.  He has to be a good defender with the size and agility to match up to opposing wings.  He needs to be a team-oriented player who can start and play heavy minutes or sit on the bench if the situation calls for it.

But most of all, he needs to make positive contributions and help our team win more than a handful of games a year, and we think Jimmy Butler is the man for that.

Teams have found real gems at this position lower in the draft in recent years, and we can see the efficient, well-rounded Butler being that type of player for us.

And when we remember this draft, it will hopefully be the beginning of a new string of good memories.  We've had enough of the other kind.

WRG 2010 Mock Draft - #27 New Jersey Nets

A point guard that we like fell to us in the 20's? Everyone thought he'd be gone by now, but he's still there. Where have we heard this one before?

We are certain that Avery Bradley isn't the second coming of Marcus Williams. When we came into the draft, we wanted to target a shooter at this pick. Avery Bradley is a solid shooter, but he also has the potential to be a lock down defender, and can play point guard.

We didn't expect to ever see Avery Bradley at this pick, so we are thrilled. He's young and has loads of potential, but with his defensive skills he can come in and give us solid minutes right away. This is a pick not only for the future, but it will help us immediately.

If you think he's in your face now, wait till you see his defense.

WRG Mock Draft #27: Memphis Grizzlies

We snagged an incredibly talented 2 guard with our first pick. Now we need to address a specific need. An athletic, shot blocking power forward.

We need a power forward in the worst way, and there are a couple guys we like that can play next to Marc Gasol. As aforementioned, we prefer someone athletic and that can block shots. We want someone with a track record. We know who we want, and we've zeroed in on him.

With the 27th pick the Memphis Grizzlies select:

Taj Gibson, PF, USC


Taj is 24 years old, but we aren't drafting for upside this late. He can come in and fill a specific need that we have. He has a proven record of being an above average shot blocker while at USC. It's also a bonus that he played with OJ Mayo at USC, so they will have some previous experience playing with each other.
